Robin Worley is an entrepreneur and proven business transformation specialist. With more than 30 years of business experience, Robin’s approachable and common sense style has brought positive organizational change to a wide variety of operations.
Prior to joining Warbird’s Imperative Leadership initiative as a managing director, Robin spent decades in leadership positions. His career and demeanor demonstrate the essential character traits (integrity, accountability and compassion, among others) and core competencies (clarity of purpose, team building and coaching, focusing on results and more) of authentic leadership.
Since 1991, Robin has served as chief executive officer of the Sewell Companies, a leading textile manufacturer in Bremen, Georgia. His ability to develop strategies, make effective decisions and foster collaboration transformed the company from a local clothing maker to a leading global textile and uniform manufacturer. At Sewell, he improved the quality of the manufacturing process by devising a cross-department program of improvement, resulting in higher quality garments and the ability to sell in new markets. When market share was threatened by lower-cost overseas manufacturing, Robin turned one division into a worldwide sourcing company of tailored apparel, while changing domestic operations to service a different market, the United States military. Sewell’s Made in USA factory currently makes officer uniforms for the Navy, Army, Air Force and Marine Corps.
In the late 1990s, Robin started Weldtech, a nuclear welding corporation that became international with sales over $70 million. In response to the industry’s need for a specialty welding contractor, Robin drew upon his leadership and management experience and staffed the company with seasoned professionals who had decades of experience in both the nuclear and non-nuclear services and modification business, ensuring the company’s success in the industry.
As a natural outgrowth of his commitment to service leadership and teaching others the skills necessary for personal and professional success, Robin then founded Whirlwind Consulting in 2006. The company teaches top decision makers and students what true leadership means and what is required to become a leader. Robin has worked with many other CEOs developing both short- and long-range plans while teaching character-building and creative problem solving.
Robin also began in 2008, Varsity Threads, an apparel and leadership program designed to help high school students look their best while also teaching leadership principles for the next Greatest Generation to come.
Because of his diversity, Robin has a market-oriented appreciation of the powerful difference people can make once they grasp the vision of what “could be” and the skills to help them envision it. His understanding of the essential relationship of leadership to teamwork has made Robin a sought-after teacher for a variety of businesses, schools, churches and civic groups.
